Agricultural innovation is crucial to feed the growing population and achieve the SDGs. Addressing complexity of agricultural development requires different mind-sets, multi-stakeholder interactions and functional capacities to accelerate innovation. In agricultural institutions, transformational learning and leadership development can develop intellectual and emotional aspects of professionals, women including, in addition to their technical knowledge. The partners of the Tropical Agriculture Platform (TAP) address capacity development through a Common Framework on Capacity Development for Agricultural Innovation Systems (CD for AIS).

The Asia-Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutions (APAARI) has been selected to represent TAP partners at the European Development Days (EDDs), which will take place from 5-6 June 2018 in Brussels. While promoting the integration of the key elements of the Framework into development programmes for wider impact, APAARI will emphasize the development of functional capacities (soft skills) to speed up agricultural innovation, under the theme ‘Gender equality in education’. Being part of the Global Village during the EDDs 2018, APAARI will represent TAP with the following title: ‘Transforming agricultural education in the Asia-Pacific region: Developing functional capacities of young professionals, women in particular, to enhance agricultural innovation systems’. Those who will be at the event, please look for stand no. 13!
