APAARI’s the Executive Secretary Dr. Ravi Khetarpal and the Coordinator of its APCoAB program Dr. Rishi Tyagi were in Taiwan for January 29-31 to seek ways of enhancing collaboration between APAARI and Taiwanese agricultural research institutions.

The visit which took the APAARI officials to the main agricultural institutions in the country, started off with a courtesy call to the Minister of Agriculture His excellency Lin, Tsung-Hsien. The honourable Minister appreciated the partnership of APAARI with Taiwan and assured increasing support, participation and membership in APAARI.

The delegation then visited the Chinese Taipei Council of Agriculture, the Academia Sinica which is host to twenty-four research institutes and seven research centers one of which is the Agricultural Biotechnology Research Institute and the International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) at Taipei, Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute (TARI) at Taichung and the World Vegetable Center (WVC) at Tainan In each of these centers, there were presentations and discussions on strengthening the on-going partnership and identifying the potential areas of collaboration

At the end of the visit, APAARI and the Chinese Taipei Council of Agriculture pledged combined efforts to strengthen further their collaboration to work for agri-food systems in the Asia-Pacific.
