Annual Review Meeting of ICAR ‘Outreach Programme on Zoonotic Diseases’ was held at College of Veterinary Science, Assam Agricultural University,  Khanapara on August 25-26, 2017.

            The meeting started with welcome address by Dr. A. Chakraborty, Director of Research (Veterinary), followed by remarks of Dr. R. N. Goswami, Dean, CVSc, AAU, Khanapara, Dr. Ashok Kumar, ADG (Animal Health), ICAR, Dr. B. P. Mishra, Joint Director (Research) cum Project Director, IVRI.

            The network project consists of one coordinating centre and 17 collaborating centres all over the country. Principal investigators, from all the centres gathered to review the epidemiology of important zoonotic diseases and to develop reliable diagnostic methods and their control and containment. Zoonotic diseases emphasized in the meeting includes 3 viral diseases (Rabies, Japanese Encephalitis, Avian Influenza), 6 parasitic (Hydatidosis, Cysticercosis, Toxoplasmosis, Toxocariasis, Cryptosporidiosis, Trichinellosis), 11 Bacterial (Brucellosis, Leptospirosis, Anthrax, Tuberculosis, Johne’s disease, Salmonellosis, Campylobacteriosis, Verotoxic E. coli, Listeriosis, ESBL producing Klebsiella and Coxiellosis), 1 Rickettsial (Scrub Typhus) and 2 Mycotic diseases (Dermatophytosis, Cryptococcosis). A brochure on Anthrax prepared by College of Veterinary Science, Bengaluru, was released in the Inaugural session of the meeting.
