A monograph on Local Cattle of Assam was released in the 70th Foundation Day of the College of Veterinary Science, Assam Agricultural University, Khanapara, Guwahati on August 18, 2017 by Dr. K.M. Bujarbaruah, Vice-Chancellor of AAU. The monograph authored by Dr. Gopal C. Das, Professor cum Principal Investigator, Network Project on Swamp Buffalo, Dr. G. Zaman, Professor of Animal Genetics & Breeding and Dr. N. Nahardeka, Principal Scientist, AICRP on Goat Breeding contains breed descriptors including molecular characterization of local cattle of Assam, named Lakhimi. Documents for registration of Lakhimi as a breed have been submitted to the ICAR National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources, Karnal, Haryana. The monograph is based on research carried out under ICAR sponsored “Network Project on Characterization of Cattle of Assam”.
