Sustainable food security will be only a dream without the participation of women

Prof. MS Swaminathan

On October 15th of each year the United Nations’ International Day of Rural Women celebrates and recognizes women’s importance in enhancing agricultural and rural development worldwide.

In this video message, Prof. MS Swaminathan, Patron of the Gender in Agriculture Partnership (GAP), underlines the importance of working together for women`s rights in agriculture. He emphasizes that women are the managers of food security at the household level, they create and conserve the culinary, cultural and curative diversity of agriculture. Giving women access to land, technology, credit, and insurance and support services is essential to maximizing their outputs, optimizing their available time and minimizing drudgery.
